RV Ram ProMaster Conversion Design
The Journey…
This van conversion of a Ram ProMaster 2500, 159” wheelbase is designed for a solo, female van resident with pet cats, and is DIY friendly. The budget proposed is $23,000 including both the van and the build. Such guidelines determine the solar charge, battery system, inverter, DC and AC devices, as well as plumbing system. The goal is to maximize comfort and multi-function designs in order to create an illusion of open space.
Initial research is done for professional conversions, self-conversions by people with experience, as well as first-time builders. The insulation is foam and wool to prevent molding. The foundation and wiring is covered with plywood. To reduce cargo weight and increase air circulation, cabinet doors have rattan centers. Structures are built with Birch wood. Plumbing uses the Whale foot pump with a grey water tank. The van features a fireplace, litter box, full length closet, gas stove, and hidden safe. The complete electric system supports remote docking for three-season travelers.
Sketches are iterated in Procreate until customer satisfaction. The final design is 3D modeled on a 1 to 1 scale using the software Shapr3D.
